Who We Are
Hofton Project Management, a company within Hofton Holdings – formally Hofton & Son Ltd – is a construction company with over 130 years experience in building and project management. A name well known in the East Midlands area for many housing and commercial developments to the three counties.
Hofton and Son Ltd was established in 1846 and the Hofton name carries over 175 years, with extensive construction and joinery experience through the successive generations. We have been responsible for the construction or alteration of homes, education facilities, healthcare facilities, historical property, industrial premises, and office accommodation to name but a few. While our business has changed over the years, the business ethos, experience and capabilities are still very much at the heart of the business.
In the last 80 years, House building has always been our greatest strength. We have built one off luxury properties through to multiple ‘landmark’ size housing estates in the East Midlands, which remain popular today. We use the highest quality materials, systems, trades and consulting professionals required to build exciting new homes to meet modern thermal and environmental requirements, while maintaining practicality and desirability.
The beginnning
Levi Hofton started as a joinery and undertaker in Beeston, Nottingham, in 1846. The late part of the 19th Century Levi’s son Robert Hofton started general building contracting to add to the already successful joinery and undertaking.
Focus on construction
Robert’s Son Henry succeeded his father and continued to build the business with more emphasis on joinery for construction with undertaking work being gradually reduced.
Business expansion
Richard Shouler entered the business in 1929 as a carpenter and worked his way to co-Director with Harold, Henry’s son and successor, who between them started speculative housing developments which grew to become the core of the business up until recent years.
New generations
1988 Harold’s son John Hofton, and Richard Shouler continued to see the business succeed, sadly however the male line of the Hofton Family came to an end in 1989 with John’s early passing.
That same year Richard became company Chairman and Brian, Richard’s son was joined by John Robinson who continued to see the business succeed with considerable housing developments over the East Midlands area.
The next millennium
In 2011 Brian retired, leaving Mark, Brian’s son to succeed him as company director with John Robinson. Shortly after this, 2012 saw significant changes with all company resources being concentrated on property developing both housing and commercial.
In 2013 John Robinson left the business to leave Mark as Managing Director to take Hofton Holdings successfully into the future.
All round service
Hofton Project Management formed in an official format in 2019. Offering Project Management and QS services to companies such as A W Lymn Funeral Directors, Hallcroft Fisheries, Trent Oils to name but a few.
Working with a variety of industry professionals including planning consultants, architects, building surveyors, tier 1 contractors and specialist contractors. By following RCIS format along with JCT contracts, our main aim is to ensure projects are delivered on budget, to high quality standards and within the customers time expectations.
